there is a much easier way that doesn't require waiting. im trying to remember it and that's how i found this. i think all you have to do is let them all come out on the first level without shooting and then you can't shoot the top 4 until you've picked all the others off, something like that

I heard about this trick back around 1982 when the only way to play was on an arcade machine. What we believed was that you had to leave the lower left bee alive until he made three runs at you without firing and shoot him DURING that third pass, or all the waiting would have been wasted and the insects would all shoot again. I was able to pull off this hack once for sure, maybe twice, but couldn't do it on several other attempts. Sounds like the actual hack may have been easier than we believed but it tested your patience for sure

I read a post back in 2001 or so from a programmer who was a student it might of been his thesis. What it is is the game only allows 6 or so bullets on screen at any one time. And the far left bees sometimes fire on the 0 pixel and the code for the trajectory of the bullets only work for 1 or higher. So the bullet gets stuck off screen. And after this happens 6 or whatever the limit, the game won't allow anymore fired if you notice right before they stop firing only 1 bullet gets fired at a time. Plus if I remember right you can do it on the stages before the bonus levels and maybe level 2 not completely sure. I remember someone told me that in 83 or so ya I'm 49 now lol

Ive tried this trick on both the original arcade and nes versions. The time is said to be 15 minutes but ive never gotten it to work on either up to 30 minutes hundreds of tries.

You got 2 stages of chance, no problem if first stage unsuccessful. I found this accidentally when it came out 🤣 remember waiting for a phone call and I was talking and pulled my shift out right of screen.then killed the bees and no more firing.

This works on Xbox One but you need to go into settings and change the game from new to old.

I've known about this glitch since the game came out, just curious does it work on the Nintendo Switch Namco Museum version? I have no interest in doing it now but back then I could play for hours on a single quarter because of this glitch. It doesn't have to be on just level 1, you can also do it on levels 2 and 10.

i loved playing this game but...the idea of real hockey play goes right out the window. it was impossible to set up a power play or maintain possession inside the zone. this is arcade hockey.

Yeah, we shamelessly leveraged this trick back in the day on our school's Galaga machine. After level 40 or so, I got bored. Then I sloppy. And then it ended in collisions. I can't remember how many spare ships I'd racked up by then.

My buddy was telling me about having his friends bring their memory cards over so he could beat these tests for them. And they'd pay him a tenner for doing it lol.

so a good thing to note is it works on all levels, it's just easiest on level 1 because they aren't as aggressive, but any of those two ships on the far left of any level can trigger the glitch

In mid 80s noticed a guy doing pretty well at game (picwood bowling alley west Los Angeles) he said his dad help build the game in Japan but I didn't believe him....then he actually showed me this trick and my mind was completely blown 😉

You know you can hit him when the crystal on his turban lights up to get a power star, right?

arcade 1up version they fixed it, it seems. after a few minutes a random bullet comes from the right side of the screen from an unseen ship lol. ive only dodged it 3 times, but it would seem fixed. guess ill just have to get the NES out lol
